![]() I've had the game for years but only started putting actual time into it after I got Horizons a few months ago, and I just finally ranked enough to get a Clipper a few weeks ago. I also have a pure DPS Federal Dropship that can actually take down an SCB (burst fire), as it causes damage faster than an SCB can repair it with full shield boosters. I'd say the ship is probably 25% less effective than typical meta FDL at killing your opponent, but it's 99% less likely to end in your death, so that's the trade off. ![]() Realistically the actual engagement can start out flying aggressively with little or no evasion to do maximum damage, doing double damage at first, and then switch to tank mode when the SCB is drained for maximum efficiency. So simply put the Clipper can drag any big 3 ship into a long engagement that can only end in a deafeat or draw. It drains drains 6.5 MW per second firing but generates only 3 MW per second at 2 pips. ![]() It's actually built to do maximum damage at exactly 50% time on target. The idea is that while the build may not be able to kill a lot of ships, there is no way for you to lose a fight if you play as an evasive tank. Oh I never said it was the maximum DPS possible, just that it was the maximum DPS possible for a drawn out engagement with 4 pips to shields. No single weapon type change can increase it's sustained DPS, and even in cases of high resistance switching the rails to efficient PA's only reduces the TTK by 1% vs a 4 resistance booster thermal shield ship, given that I'm better with rails and not everyone runs max resistance the rails won out, before even factoring in that they also disable shield banks. So overall this is the single most powerful configuration for the Clipper's weapons. You can technically do a bit better with fixed weapons but will probably end up doing less damage. That's 2 times more damage per distributor charge than an efficient plasma accelerator. This build does 21 damage per unit of energy, which is why canons are the most expensive weapon in the game. Turreted (and fixed but not gimballed) canons are the most efficient ranged weapons in the game other than frag canons landing every shot. Nothing other than a Vulture/Courier/Eagle is more maneuverable than you.Īctually that's not true of turreted canons, this configuration provides the maximum DPS possible in the game given the power distributor size and pip choice. It's shields are invulnerable to any non big 3 ship, provided you evade 50% of fire. It can deal 3 medium railguns of damage while disabling your shield cell banks. It's a ship that cannot be targeted by all turreted and gimballed weapons fired outside of chaff or special effects. The reason being is your shield recharge rate is faster than the rate any non big 3 ship can cause sustained damage. It is mathematically impossible for you to be defeated. In fact with the way shield recharge works, if you took this ship into a fight with any ship in the game other than the big 3 and you spent half or more of the fight not being shot by say. That's an insane amount of shielding, which the FAS cannot come close to. The best part? With 4 pips to shields it has ~3000 effective shield with no cell banks, which recharges in 50 seconds. Against any slower ships I run one as a feedback cascade. These have insane DPS and the Clipper can keep these in their effective range. However if you build it well it's amazing.Ģx Large Long Range Dispersion Field Canon Turrets, which effectively permanently disable anyone's gimbals and turrets.Ģx Short Range Medium Railguns, no special effect. If you can't build it well it's going to lose. The Clipper can absolutely wreck almost anything in the right hands, but it's superiority comes from having a lot of module space and high speed.
